Step by Step Overview

Once the candidate is accepted into the TeacherBuilder.com program, the candidate will serve as teacher of record using a one-year probationary certificate and is expected to complete all program requirements within the first year. However, if necessary, and if the school district offers an additional contract, the probationary certificate may be renewed an additional two years for a total of three years. Interns requiring more than one year to complete the program will be assessed $1,500.00 for each additional year. The following steps provide an overview of how an individual progresses through the TeacherBuilder.com alternative certification program.  ( Please note that not all candidates will progress through the program at the same rate and in the same sequence.)
 
Step One - Submit Completed Application Packet
 
  • Complete online application
  • Submit non-refundable $65.00 payment at end of online application for application processing and eligibility determination - credit card or electronic check accepted
  • Fax or mail official transcripts and application payment confirmation sheet

  • Receive eligibility status notification via electronic and U.S. mail within two weeks
 
Step Two - Program Admission, Processing, and Online Curriculum
 
  • Logon to TeacherBuilder.com and submit an online payment of $600.00 for Program Admission Processing. This payment is non-refundable once the intern has been granted online access.
  • Receive a letter of acceptance officially designating you as a program candidate via electronic and U.S. mail within one week
  • Complete Haberman Interviews
    • Within two weeks after receiving letter of acceptance, a program supervisor will contact you by phone to administer the Haberman Interview
  • Select a course of certification - Your program supervisor will recommend one that best suits your needs based on:
    • Online Application
    • Transcripts
    • Haberman and Gallup TeacherInsight Interviews
    • Discussion with program supervisors
  • Information and instructions regarding your customized course of certification will be sent to you via e-mail.
  • Logon to TeacherBuilder.com after a course of certification is determined and begin taking the online instructional modules.
  • Take and pass the TExES test for the content (teaching area) being pursued.
    • Submit a barcode request to receive permission to take the content area test.
    • Once a content area test is taken, but not passed, another barcode will not be issued for that content test unless a teaching position is obtained in that specific content.
    • Only two content area tests may be taken prior to being hired by a school district.
 
Step Three - Job Search and Hire
 
  • Receive Letter of Introduction
    • Allows candidate to begin applying for teaching positions in Texas Public Schools.
    • Indicates the candidate's eligible areas for certification.
    • Serves as a probationary certificate for 60 days.
  • Acquire a teaching position
  • Arrange for payment of program fees - $4000
    • Setup payroll payment through direct debit of credit card or checking account in 10 monthly installments submit form via U.S. mail to TeacherBuilder.com, 2524 W Freddy Gonzalez Dr., Edinburg, Texas 78539
    • -or- Setup monthly electronic payments on TeacherBuilder.com (10 payments of $400 each)
    • -or- One lump sum payment
  • Take and pass the TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) test after the following requirements are met:
    • Content test (and TOPT if applicable) are passed.
    • 90 hours of instructional modules are successfully completed with an overall average of 80% or better.
    • Employment by a district.
 
Step Four - Internship as Teacher of Record
 
  • Upon completion of steps one through three, the candidate is officially designated an "Intern".
  • Apply at SBEC for a probationary certificate good for one year.
  • A Field Supervisor and mentor teacher will be assigned to assist with the internship.
 
Step Five - Receive Standard Teaching Certificate (Program Completion)
 
  • The intern is recommended for a standard teaching certificate after the all of the following requirements have been met:
    • Pass the required state certification tests.
    • Completion of the online instructional modules with an overall average of 80% or better.
    • Completion of the field experience with recommendations from Program Supervisor and campus administrator.
    • Completion of the e-portfolio (contains teaching evaluations, program progress history, etc.).
    • Verification that all program fees have been paid.
  • After SBEC receives our recommendation, apply at SBEC to obtain a standard teaching certificate.
